La Nuit des Casse-Noisettes

Pour mon projet de fin d’année, j’étais chargé de concevoir la direction artistique, les light rigs ainsi que les références en lighting, étant donné que c’est ma spécialité principale !

Pour commencer, je vais vous présenter le light rig du salon, qui devait fonctionner avec deux ambiances : une ambiance plus chaleureuse, rappelant vraiment un soir de Noël au coin du feu, puis une ambiance verdâtre et horrifique.

Pour la conception du light rig, j’ai décidé que la key light serait le feu de la cheminée et que la fill light serait la lampe au plafond. Cependant, des lumières de la couleur opposée (vertes pour le salon chaud et rouges pour l’ambiance verdâtre) permettraient également de déboucher les ombres. Enfin, les rim lights étaient tout simplement jaunes ou vert clair, en fonction de leur emplacement !

Ce qui était le plus compliqué dans la création de ce light rig de salon était d’obtenir ce côté « stop motion ». On devait comprendre d’où pouvait venir la lumière, et je devais vraiment concevoir le lighting en y réfléchissant. Par exemple, je devais imaginer comment, en stop motion, ils auraient pu concevoir un feu et comment celui-ci aurait interagi avec le décor. Mais ce qui était également difficile, c’est que je ne pouvais pas tricher en jouant avec les angles morts, car on voyait chaque partie du salon !

For my final-year project, I was responsible for designing the art direction, the light rigs, and the lighting references, as lighting is my main area of expertise!

To begin, I’m going to present the living room light rig, which had to work with two different moods: a warmer atmosphere, really reminiscent of a cozy Christmas evening by the fireplace, and then a greenish, horror-inspired atmosphere.

For the design of the light rig, I decided that the key light would be the fireplace, while the fill light would come from the ceiling lamp. However, lights with the opposite color (green for the warm living room and red for the greenish atmosphere) would also help fill in the shadows. Finally, the rim lights were simply yellow or light green, depending on their position!

The most challenging part of creating this living room light rig was achieving that “stop-motion” feel. We had to understand where the light could realistically come from, so I really had to think carefully about how to design the lighting. For example, I had to imagine how they could have created a fire in stop motion and how it would interact with the environment. Another challenging aspect was that I couldn’t cheat by relying on blind spots, as every part of the living room was

visible!g
